Why Lannatim

What this approach offers.

Reading over Selling

The curriculum is built around what appears on the page — the statement, the prospectus, the disclosure document — rather than around any product or market view.

Small Evening Cohorts

Each cohort is kept deliberately small. There is time for questions that a lecture hall would not accommodate, and the pace adjusts to the group in the room.

No Prior Knowledge Required

The introductory courses begin from first principles. A student who has never read a balance sheet before will find the opening sessions straightforward.

Grounded in Malaysian Context

The investment vehicles course addresses structures specific to Malaysia — EPF voluntary contributions, SC-registered funds, and Private Retirement Schemes — rather than a generic international curriculum.

Written Work and Reflection

Each course includes written exercises. The process of writing about what one has read tends to clarify what was understood and what remains unclear.

Continuing Arrangement Available

Students who finish an introductory course may continue under the tutored reading term — a fortnightly arrangement with a tutor who follows their specific reading interests.

Common Questions

Questions from prospective students.

Do I need any financial background to attend? +

No prior background is required for the introductory courses. Reading the Statement begins with the basic structure of a balance sheet and builds from there. The Investment Vehicles course also opens without assumption, though students who have completed the Statement course typically find the second course easier to follow.

When do courses run, and how many students are in a cohort? +

Courses are held on weekday evenings, typically two sessions per week. Cohorts are kept small — usually between six and twelve students — so that the sessions can remain conversational. We run cohorts when there is sufficient interest; please enquire and we will advise on the next available start.

What does the tutored reading term involve, exactly? +

The tutored reading term is a continuing arrangement for students who have completed at least one of our introductory courses. The tutor and student meet fortnightly — at our office in Plaza Damansara — to discuss what the student has been reading, to agree on the next reading, and to review any written work the student has submitted. The term runs for twelve weeks and may be renewed.

Are courses held in person or online? +

Courses are taught in person at our premises in Bukit Damansara. We have found that the discussion that takes place during an in-person session is a substantial part of the learning — something more difficult to replicate in a remote setting. Tutored reading meetings may occasionally be held by arrangement at another location within Kuala Lumpur.

What are the course fees, and how is payment made? +

Reading the Statement is RM 860 for the five-week course. Investment Vehicles in Malaysia is RM 1,940 for the eight-week course. The Tutored Reading Term is RM 3,840 per twelve-week term. Payment is made by bank transfer prior to the start of the cohort. Please write to us for payment details once you have confirmed your place.

Is this financial advice? +

No. Lannatim is an educational institution and the courses are educational in nature. Nothing in the curriculum constitutes financial advice or a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any investment product. Students who require advice on their personal financial affairs should consult a licensed financial adviser registered with the Securities Commission Malaysia.
