Lannatim Financial Education ยท Kuala Lumpur
A quiet study office with books and papers

Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur

A place for the
careful reader.

Lannatim was founded on the view that financial literacy comes from reading primary documents โ€” not from charts, commentary, or market forecasts.

The Studies

How Lannatim came to be.

Lannatim was established in Kuala Lumpur with one purpose: to offer adults a structured opportunity to read their own financial documents carefully, in the company of an experienced reader.

The founding observation was simple. Most people who want to understand their financial position are not poorly informed โ€” they are poorly read. They have not sat with a balance sheet long enough to see what it contains. They have not read a unit trust prospectus from the beginning. They have not compared two years of household income statements to find where the pattern lies.

What they need is not advice. What they need is practice โ€” and a small group in which to practise.

The office is based in Plaza Damansara, Bukit Damansara. Courses are held in the evenings on weekdays, in cohorts that are deliberately kept small. The syllabus is built around documents rather than theories, and the pace of each course follows the pace of the group.

Standards & Practices

How we hold ourselves to account.

Educational Neutrality

The curriculum contains no product recommendations, no market commentary, and no commercial relationships with any fund manager or financial institution.

Student Data Protection

Student records and correspondence are kept confidential and are not shared with third parties. We comply with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA) of Malaysia.

Small Cohort Commitment

Each cohort is capped at twelve students. We will open an additional cohort rather than expand an existing one beyond a size at which individual attention becomes difficult.

Primary Document Focus

Course materials are drawn from actual published documents โ€” annual reports, fund prospectuses, SC disclosure documents โ€” rather than simplified summaries prepared for teaching purposes.

Written Exercise Protocol

Each course includes written work. Written responses are returned to students with written commentary. We regard this exchange as central to the learning process.

Transparent Fees

Course fees are stated clearly before enrolment. There are no additional charges for course materials. The tutored reading term fee covers all sessions within the twelve-week term.

The educational position of Lannatim.

There is a long tradition, in both law and accountancy, of the annotated document โ€” the primary text accompanied by a trained reader's marginal remarks. Lannatim borrows from this tradition. The central text is always the document the student is learning to read; the tutor's role is to sit alongside that text and offer observations.

In the Malaysian context, this means teaching students to read the documents that govern their own financial lives โ€” the statements their banks and employers produce, the prospectuses of the funds available to them, the EPF statements they receive each year. These documents contain more than most readers currently find in them.

The courses at Lannatim are not designed to produce financial advisers or fund managers. They are designed to produce readers โ€” adults who can sit with a financial document, understand its structure, and draw reasonable inferences from what it contains. This is a modest aim, and a durable one.

Financial education at Lannatim covers personal balance sheet reading, income statement analysis, household ratio calculation, unit trust structures, ETF fee analysis, EPF voluntary contributions, Private Retirement Schemes, and continuing tutored study for those who have completed introductory work.

Courses are held at Plaza Damansara, Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, in the evenings on weekdays. Cohorts are small and enrolment is by enquiry.
